چکیده

This study presents the biometric relationships among various increments that is useful in both scientific and practical terms for silvicultural of silver fir. The recorded characteristics trees are a faithful indicator effect work measures environmental conditions. Knowing these increments, them, can contribute to adaptations on stands with purpose reducing risks generated by factors. We carried an inventory based tree increment cores. sample size was determined radial height variability trees. were selected proportion their basal area diameter categories. Current annual (CAIh) measured felled from mean category. For CAIh we models height. Percentages form-height used compute current volume percentage (PCAIv). tree, estimated through had root-mean-square error (RMSE) 0.8749 (CAIv) RMSE value 0.1295. In even-aged stands, hypothetical may have all stand. Conclusions: diameter, height, influenced structural conditions natural structures comprising several generations fir mixed beech other deciduous trees, which been obtained regeneration local provenances, stable must become management targets. Stable condition sustainable stands.

Hydraulic constraints limit height growth in trees at high altitude.

• Low temperatures limit the fixation of photosynthates and xylogenesis. Here, we hypothesized that reduced longitudinal growth in trees at high altitude is related to the lower hydraulic efficiency of the transport system. • Apical buds of Norway spruce (Picea abies) trees at high and low elevation were heated during 2006 and 2007. At the end of the experiment, trees were felled. Longitudinal ...

Growth, Development and Yield in Pure and Mixed Forest Stands

Objective: Ecosystems with mixed species compared to the ones with pure compositions provide a broader range of options in the fields of biodiversity, conservation, protection and restoration. Nearly all forest plantations are established as monocultures, but research has shown that there are potential advantages to be gained by using carefully designed species mixtures in place of monocultures...

Lower mortality rates in those living at moderate altitude

(up to about 2000 m) were shown to have lower mortality from coronary artery disease (CAD) and stroke (-22% and-12% per 1000 m) [1] and an about 50% lower risk of dying from Alzheimer's disease compared with their counterparts living at lower altitudes [2]. In contrast, reported altitude effects on cancer mortality are still conflicting [3]. However, due to shared risk factors, e.g. obesity and...
